Dr Arla Ogilvie is a Specialist Physician and Endocrinologist based at Life Knysna Private Hospital, where she has been in practice since 2019. She trained and specialised both in the United Kingdom and South Africa, and has over 30 years of senior experience practicing Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetes. From 2012 – 2019 she served as Professor of Medicine and Chair of the UK Clinical Programme, St George’s International School of Medicine. She is a past president of the Endocrine Section of the Royal Society of Medicine in the UK.
PRACTICE NEWS
We are currently only seeing new patients with endocrine disorders or diabetes, and regret that we are no longer able to take on new patients with general medical problems. The reason for this is that Dr Ogilvie is the only Specialist Endocrinologist & Diabetologist in the area, whereas there are a number of good specialist physicians in Internal Medicine in the Garden Route and Port Elizabeth. We apologise for any difficulty this may cause and thank you for your understanding.
Our current waiting time for a non-urgent new patient appointment is up to 6 months. Urgent patients are prioritised and will be seen sooner. All new patients require a referral from a doctor.
We are not contracted with any Medical Aid for out of hospital consultations or investigations. For details of our billing policy please contact Reception.

Arla believes in delivering the best possible care for every patient. To this end she gives her patients time, places them at the centre of their care, and wherever possible involves them in making decisions. She practices to the highest professional and ethical standards, and keeps her practice up to date by attending courses, medical conferences and meetings. She has dedicated her working life to her patients, who are always her first priority.

Dr Ogilvie has extensive and long-standing experience in the investigation, diagnosis and management of all areas of internal medicine.
DIABETES
Dr Ogilvie is an expert in the diagnosis and management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes including insulin pump management and continuous glucose monitoring.
ENDOCRINOLOGY
Dr Ogilvie has 25 years of experience as a specialist in all aspects of Endocrinology. She is an expert in hormones and their associated disorders. This includes thyroid disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, osteoporosis, disorders of calcium metabolism, male and female hypogonadism, as well as diseases of the pituitary and adrenal glands.
